Nintendo and Pokémon sued Palworld this week. When Poketpair, a video game with settings and characters reminiscent of the Pokémon universe, was first released in January, Pokémon announced that it was looking into the game. However, they have now sued Pokémon with firearms, claiming that the game Palworld, a spoof shooter, breaches intellectual property rights.
“This lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights,” Nintendo stated about the lawsuit in a news release.
Palworld responded by stating in a lengthy statement on Twitter (X post) hat they are unaware of Pokémon and that Nintendo is suing Palworld. They state:
We acknowledge receipt of the lawsuit and will initiate the necessary legal actions and inquiries about the allegations of patent infringement. We have not yet received notification of the precise patents that we are allegedly infringing against, nor are we aware of them at this time. We promise to give it our all for our fans and to make sure independent game creators aren’t prevented or deterred from following their passion projects.
